In short: Feather has no account, sends no usage data and keeps your data on your computer. This website sets no cookies. The details are below.
Last updated: November 5, 2026
What Feather keeps, and where
Everything Feather remembers stays in a folder on your computer. Nobody else, including us, has access to it.
- History, bookmarks, open tabs and settings: in files in your user folder.
- Passwords and addresses: in an encrypted vault whose key is kept by your system (the Keychain on Mac, your Windows account's protection on PC).
- Credit cards: Feather never stores them.
- Protection log: site names and the number of items blocked, kept for 30 days. Never the addresses of the pages you read.
- Error logs (
plantage.txt,erreurs.txt): the cause of an unexpected shutdown or error, with no page address or user folder name. They only leave your computer if you attach them to a report yourself.
You can erase everything from Feather's Settings, or by deleting its folder.
The only connections Feather makes on its own
Apart from the sites you open, Feather only connects in these cases. None of these connections send an identifier, your history or usage data.
| What for | Where to | When |
|---|---|---|
| Checking for and downloading updates | gitlab.com | From time to time, and when you ask |
| Updating blocklists (EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Liste FR, cookie banners) | raw.githubusercontent.com | About every 4 days |
| Suggestions while you type a search | Your search engine (Brave Search by default) | While typing, never in private browsing. Can be turned off in Settings. |
| Translating a page on your computer | registry.npmjs.org and Mozilla's translation model servers | Once per language, the first time you translate. The translation itself happens on your computer. |
| Installing and updating extensions | Chrome Web Store, and the Firefox add-ons site on Mac | Only if you have extensions: when you install them, then about once a week for updates |
| Getting around a site block (encrypted DNS) | Quad9 | Only if you turn on “Get around blocks” |
| Searching for an image | The service you pick (Google Lens, Bing or TinEye) | Only when you ask from the right-click menu |
| Warning about fraudulent websites (Mac) | The safe browsing service built into macOS | While browsing. Can be turned off in Settings. |
The AI assistant is off by default. If you turn it on, it opens the service you choose (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Le Chat) with your own account, and that service's policy applies.
The websites you visit
As with any browser, the sites you open receive your IP address and what you do there. Feather limits what else they can learn: it blocks trackers and third-party cookies, declines cookie banners and scrambles your computer's fingerprint. It does not hide your IP address.
This website
- It sets no cookies and does not track visits.
- Its fonts are hosted with it: your browser contacts no other service to display it.
- It is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles technical data (IP address, page requested, date) to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. Cloudflare's visitor analytics are not enabled.
- Downloads are served by GitLab, which applies its own privacy policy.
